Sunset Park, one of the largest parks in Las Vegas, is located near McCarran Airport in the southeast part of town. The park is bordered by Sunset Road on the north, Eastern Avenue to the west, Warm Springs Road on the south, and Tomiyasu Lane to the east. Accumulation of the land for the park began in 1909, when it became the Miller Ranch. It later became the Vegas Stock Farm, which trained and raced Thoroughbred racehorses. Clark County, Nevada acquired the property in 1967 and turned it into a park.
The park features a large pond that is stocked with fish. Every day you can see all sorts of people finish along it's banks. Fortunately for us, the pond, especially the island in the middle of it, serves as a home and resting spot for local and migratory birds. I don't know enough about migrations to know if we'll see anything unusual, but you never know.
Besides the birds and the park, the people there are often a good resource for practicing your photojournalism skills on.
We'll meet at the South end of the pond in the parking lot at 4pm. The entrance to the parking lot is about 100 feet North of the train tracks off of Eastern. I'll be driving the sand colored Toyota Highlander.
Bring your long lens, if you have one, and I'll see you there!

It was a good time. Bummer that the light disappeared so quickly. Dang clouds!
