Mickie Finnz (map)

Selected By: Nikki

We will meet at Mickie Finnz and walk from there.  There is a car show for 9/11 remembrance going on that day, so there may be some car still parked on Fremont to shoot.  Meet at 7pm and will leave the restaurant at 7:20 sharp.

Mickie Finnz is just outside the elevators of the main Fremont Street parking garage on LVBLD.  Corner of Fremont and Las Vegas Blvd next to Hennessey.

Love the idea. I just picked up a couple of TT-5's ( Pocket Wizards) for Nikon and have been going out on Wed. and Thurs. nights to shoot street performers. Nice effect working with off camera flash. I like the high speed sync for the zip line down town. Wireless control rocks.

So I'm fairly new, but not sure what I should be looking at for an inexpensive flash. I'm currently shooting with a canon XTi, and only have the on camera flash. Any suggestions?

You can get some cheap gear to get started , a trigger/reciever set by Youngnou , and they also have a flash for around $60 ( yongnuo 460 ii or for a bit more the YN 468 ). I picked up a couple of the YN460's and a Canon 430 EX II and some YN triggers. No problems with any of it so far , but I am still learning.

Yes You should be able to get some good shots. Those stock flashes can do quite a bit of good fill light. You will want to shoot closer to the performer rather then far away though.... that is my though.

I have a basic comment to questions about Flash. I worked at B&C for 1.5 years and have sold the gear. I have seen al the situations with flash issues with customers. I am also the Digital Photography Instructor for B&C Camera. My experience says buy the appropriate flash for your camera. Nikon? Buy a Nikon flash. Canon? Buy a Canon Flash. TTL is a wonderful thing, let the camera and flash work together for you until you start using manual settings with your flash.

Agree that the matching brand flash is the way to go for ettl.
But if going off camera in manual mode , the YN flashes
Provide great bang for the buck , especially for those on a budget.

ETTL for Canon and TTL for nikon both work in of Camera Flash as well, an unknown tidbit. Of course for Canon you need the Canon ST-E2 Speedlite Transmitter. So for the price issue I understand where you are coming from.

So I'm looking at gear... and all I really need is a flash that's E-TTL for Canon, and works with a radio receiver, and the canon radio receiver? Will this work with pretty much any canon E-TTL compatible flash?

FYI.. Craigslist always has some great flashes. I have found that it is a great was to try new things for less money. Especially with the economy. a ton of people are getting rid of camera equipment since they don't use it.

To make it the easiest for all of us to meet in one place, We can meet at mickey Finz on Fremont. I will bring my MEETUP signage so you can find me. Not to hard, talkk woman short black hair bright red bangs. We can leave from there to walk downtown as a group. There is also a car show going on at the same time, so I planned it at this time for those that are car fans can get some cool shots. Reflections off the paint usually turn out pretty awesome. text me at 702.416.4834 w/????

As for models...I invited some from a facebook group I am in. It was an open invite so if you guys are interested in using them, please bring a release and I am taking your word that you will forward me at least 2 edited shots for them. You do not have to shoot them, but if you choose to remember they are building their portfolios.

If you have models, please invite them. Understand that even if you bring them I ask that other photographers are able to shoot. Obviously if they are your model, you will be the one giving direction of all they do. Other photographers can shoot around you or mutually figure it out. :)
