I know we just did this but I was not able to make it and would LOVE to learn how to do light painting.
Its where you use long exposures and things like sparklers, or light pens (glorified flashlights =) to "draw" with light.
Some cool websites to check out are http://www.diyphotography.net/painting_with_light![]()

Trains are good subjects for light painting. Where is our local train yard?
I've signed up for this group and haven't yet attended a session. I've dabbled in light painting before and this would be a perfect one to go to, but only if it's going to be on the weekend.
I agree, it should definitely be on a weekend... So who's going to put up a date and location? :) I'm not sure about a local trainyard to be honest... when I've done it, its just been with light pens, flashlights and sparklers.
This sounds like fun. I would like to attend once you decide on a date. Weekends are best for me.
I changed the date and time to Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 7:00 PM
Is it dark enough out there at Exploration park , are there park lights and such that will contaminate long exposures ? I have done this out on the dry lake bed and even then there was some light pollution.
Hope you all have a great time with this. Light Painting is a blast. I hope this place is dark enough for the event. I will miss it because being out of town, but would love to help out the group.
What and where is Calico? This is kind of last minute for a change of venue, isn't it? :)
I had planned to go, but have no idea where you have changed the location to. When I clicked on the map, it gave me numerous possibilities. Please narrow this down to a specific location.
If that is indeed Calico Basin , count me out , that is close to 35 miles one way for me.
Are we meeting somewhere before we go like a car pool Im not sure where it is
I changed the location from Calico to Exploration Peak Park
the reason why changed because it much darker over there but since everyone not agree with it, let go back to Exploration Peak Park...the park it bright but we can light paint at the hill
Hey Cindy,
Sorry that you had issues finding the meetup.. this one was a little scattered and all over the place. If there's not a more organized one setup within the next few weeks, I'll be trying to organize one on my own after I finish moving.
Map showed wrong location, and by the time I figured it out, nobody was in sight. Details to the linkup at the park were sketchy at best (its a big place), so I started walking. I encountered several others as I wandered all ove, also looking for the main group. We ended up gathering about 4 photographers and getting some interesting shots in with Francis contributing his fingertip LED lights and expertise, some laser writing, ghost flashing, and some cool spinning LED effects.
Not sure what that is. Please explain. Also when and where.
