MARK YOUR CALENDAR!
We’ve sold our house and are moving back to the Northwest. For our last SNP event, we’re hosting another campout at Valley of Fire. We’ve reserved Group Campsite #1 (through the gate at The Beehives).
PLEASE, if you’ve ever attended (or wanted to attend) a JanW (and Gary) event, come to this family-friendly event to say goodbye and celebrate our next big adventure.
Here are the tentative details (we’ll post more details as the get confirmed):
Saturday:
Check in is 3pm on 5/29/10
Cocktail Hour at 5pm (BYOB)
Potluck Dinner at 6pm (as usual, we’ll provide grilled chix & tableware)
Golden Hour Shoot
Full-Moon Shoot
Light Painting (please bring flashlights, glow sticks, props, etc)
Sunday:
Continental Breakfast (coffee, juice, fruit & carbs courtesy of Jan & Gary)
Early morning shoot (my favorite secret place…a semi-difficult hike into canyon; bring boots!)
Mid-Morning shoot (another of my favorite places)
Check out is 2pm
Chuck Berg is working on procuring models (go Chuck!).
Please remember all of the following:
* Cash for park entry & camping fees (I think it’s about $8 + $10 per car for locals)
* Appropriate sun & heat protection (campsite has shade structure, but it’ll be a hot one!)
* A dish to share for either the cocktail hour or potluck dinner
* Your own drinks (including plenty of water!)
* Camping & camera gear (you’ll probably want a remote for long exposures)
Please feel free to bring family/friends! (If you bring kids, it’s a great place for them to play in sand.)
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE only RSVP “yes” if you are sure to be there, as we need an accurate count for food, tableware, etc. (I gained 5 pounds eating leftover muffins after the last event!)
I decided it was time to update the group on my model search for this weekend. I have received several "maybe" and "probably" responses, but no "definitely" responses so far. We could end up with none, or we could have a group. I'll keep looking.
Nice work Chuck! Do any of the models need to carpool? We can take a passenger.
Tony asked about the Group Use site. There are three sites, spaced far apart in a remote area of the park (amidst huge rock formations). Each one has a huge shade structure w/8-10 picnic tables, plus a kitchen area w/concrete counters and a built-in grill. Water available, but no electricity. Huge fire pit w/concrete bench around it. Lots of space for tent camping. I think they limit the sites to 45 people. We highly recommend it for SNP (or private) meetups!
Hey all, I'm excited about our "Homage to the Masters" exercise for this weekend. Please check out Andy Goldsworthy's work ASAP at: http://www.ecosalon.com/andy-goldsworthys-amazing-works-o...![]()
. Then, check out his philosophy at: http://www.rwc.uc.edu/artcomm/web/w2005_2006/maria_Goldsw...![]()
. I'll be bringing "stuff" to supplement what we find on site for our sculptures. IF we can get our sculptures built by Saturday night, we can "light paint" them.
I'm definitely attending with my wife and 2 kids. Looking forward to camping out in the stars again!
I am looking forward to meet everyone and learn some new techniques. See you soon!!
Had an absolute blast getting out of my photography rut this past weekend meeting some fabulous photogs (and their wonderful offspring!) with a beautiful backdrop to play and photograph in. Jan & Gary will be sorely missed!
I would love to attend, but I have solid plans. Thanks for the invite.
