WHAT: Night shoot at Nelson’s Landing (we’ll set up before dark) and light painting.
WHEN: Meetup is at 7p, Saturday, May 15.
WHERE: Nelson’s Landing. Directions: From US 93/95, between Henderson and Boulder City, turn right (south) on US 95 (toward Searchlight/Laughlin/Needles; Veterans Memorial Hwy.). At 10.3 miles, turn left (east) on NV-165, which follows Eldorado Canyon through Eldorado Mountains; past the town of Nelson (at 11.3mi) and the Techatticup Mine to the “spectacular overlook” of Lake Mojave/Colorado River (about 18 mi total). NOTE: We may move from this initial meet-up location.
DETAILS: Please bring: water, drinks, snacks to share, flashlight/headlamp, and all your camera gear, including a sturdy tripod. As well, please bring props, glow sticks, etc. for light painting.
This is a four-hour night shoot. As the sun goes down, it might get cool, so please bring appropriate clothing. As well, you might want to bring a camp chair in which to get comfy while your long exposures tick away.
All of the photography information (techniques, equipment, etc.) is detailed in the 4-page document (JW’s Research Notes—The Great SNP Astrophotography Experiment) that I’ve loaded onto the SNP website.
I can take two passengers, but (1) I'm heading down there a few hours early to set up and (2) I'll be there until the night shoot is over. Carpools could meet at the casino that's just before the 93/95 turnoff...is it Railroad?
Is anyone car pooling?
