Since the week I started this group, people have been asking for a trip to Zion. And what better time to go then when the park is full of brilliant fall colors?! I've talked with Michael Plyler, Director of Field Servies for the Zion Canyon Field Institute, and he personally recommended our group visit on this date to have the best chance at great photos.
I've been working with Michael and he's going to give us a personal talk!
Michael leads all of the institutes photography courses throughout the year and usually charges hundreds of dollars. While he's willing to do this one for free, we need an accurate head count to see how many people are really going on the trip. If you've been waiting around to RSVP, wait no longer! The sooner we get our numbers straight, the better my organization will be and the better the experience will be for everyone! Michael is going to talk about Zion and the park in general, some of the challenges of photographing in Zion from his perspective and he'll also give us personal recommendations for shooting locations.
You can drive through Zion and park at the museum, though there may not be any spaces left. The best bet is to park near the visitor center and take the shuttle up to the museum. I recommend being there a little early to avoid last minute problems and then you have extra time to look around!
Michael is a long time photographer of the SouthWest and you can see some of his work in this book... ![]()
Hope to see you there!

Thanks Joe for organizing this. My daughter & I had a great time. We skipped out on meeting at "Oscars" because it was so jam packed when we got there. (We were ablout 20 min. early.)
I hope to get to socialize with the group another time.
Joe, Thanks for ordering perfect weather for the trip to Zion. It was great to see you and Warlord. If we do something long distance again we need to get better organization so that we actually meet everyone.
This is going to be a blast I love Zions!
